HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Lady Demons fought off a pesky Jackson State squad in a 4-3 win. 
 
NSU (2-1) has rebounded from a season-opening defeat to win its second consecutive match, while JSU (0-3) has continued with bad luck by dropping its third consecutive 4-3 decision.
 
NSU took two of three doubles matches to earn the first point.  
 
Tjasa Klevisar and Ayu Ishibashi soared to a 6-3 win before the pairing of Gig Kanaphuet and Sofi Garica captured a 6-1 win seal the first point for the Lady Demons.
 
Dorota Szczgyielska and Renske Ubachs went head-to-head on No.3 with JSU's Isabel Benavides and Zeina Shaaban and were ahead 5-3 before going unfinished, as NSU clinched the victory prior to the conclusion of their match. 
 
"We did not use the momentum from winning the doubles point," said head coach Jonas Brobeck. "We dug ourselves large holes on too many courts."
 
After dropping three sets towards the end of the singles rotation, NSU's Szczygielska rebounded from a 6-1 first-set loss to claim the final two sets with a 6-4 and 7-6(3) win in the final two sets over the Lady Tigers' Daniela Ramos in the No. 4 singles spot.
 
Ubachs shook off a 6-3 loss in the first set to cruise to a 6-0 second set win before ultimately dropping in the third set 6-4 to JSU's Zeina Shaaban in the No. 6 slot. 
 
Klevisar had a neck and neck first-set win at No.2, 7-5, against Paula Arcarons. She went on to defeat Arcarons 6-0 in the second set.
 
Ishibashi defeated Robin Alston of Jackson State at No. 1, 6-3 and 6-4.
 
NSU wraps up its Hattiesburg trip with a match against Southern Miss. (1-0) Saturday at 1 p.m. 
 
The Lady Demons are 12-9 against Southern Miss, last meeting in 2022 where USM had a 4-1 victory at Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
 
"Tomorrow, we need to be much more consistent with our game plans and how we are competing from start to finish," said Brobeck.
