SAN MARCOS, Tex. – The Northwestern State women's tennis team surged to an early lead Saturday at Texas State before dropping a tough 4-3 match. 

After winning the doubles point, the Lady Demons were ahead 3-2 before dropping the final two to lose a tight contest. 

"This one hurts a lot," head coach Jonas Brobeck said. "However, we are proud of how the girls fought through adversity today." 

The match came down to the No. 1 singles spot, where Kiana Graham of Texas State won in a tiebreaker against Klevisar in the final set to clinch a tight match and give the Bobcats the win. 

Klevisar won the first set 7-5 before dropping the last two 6-2, 7-6. 

Prior to the clincher, Texas State's Emily Niers came away with a three-set triumph against NSU's Sofi Garcia at the No. 2 singles position. 

Neirs topped her in the first set 7-5 before Garcia came back in the second set to take it 6-4. In the third, Neirs controlled the set throughout to win it 6-0. That victory set up the deciding match at the No. 1 singles position. 

NSU (5-3) won on No. 2 and No. 3 with doubles teams Dorota Szczygielska and Renske Ubachs and Sofi Garcia and Gig Kanaphuet. 

Gig Kanaphuet defeated Mae McCutcheon 7-5 in both sets. 

Renske Ubachs, 5-1 in singles, was matched with Andrea Pineda at No. 4. Ubachs topped Pineda in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. 

"We will get better and stronger from this," said Brobeck. "We are going to focus on resting and healing up for a couple of days." 

Next, the Lady Demons head to Nacogdoches to play Oral Roberts on Saturday at 1 p.m.
