NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State, eager to take to the courts and do what it does best following an unexpected break due to weather and schedule alterations, finally got its shot to make a statement against LSU-Shreveport.
 
NSU (4-1) made short work of LSUS (1-2) on Saturday afternoon, notching a spotless 7-0 victory over the Pilots.
 
The Lady Demons dominated the doubles point to begin the afternoon, winning on all three courts in less than 30 minutes.
 
Doubles pair Dorota Szczygielska and Renske Ubachs defeated Catherine de Freitas and Carlota Alcalde of LSUS, 6-0 on court three.
 
Sofi Garcia and Paige Wise dominated on court two, defeating Carmen Perez and Cristhine de Freitas 6-0.
 
"We emphasize doubles a lot during practice, because it is such an important point," said head coach Jonas Brobeck. "We went into singles with momentum and confidence."
 
Ayu Ishibashi and Tjasa Klevisar remain undefeated in doubles, topping the Pilots doubles pairing of Angela Basto and Sophia de Michele 6-2.
 
Tjasa Klevisar marked the most difficult point of the day for the Lady Demons. Klevisar playing at the top slot had a fast start going 6-2 in the first set against Angela Basto before falling in the second set 7-5 and forcing a tiebreaker. Klevisar had a surge of momentum and overtopped Basto 10-3.
 
Paige Wise, Renske Ubachs, Sofi Garcia, and Gig Kanaphuet all swept their singles opponents   6-0 in both sets.
 
The Lady Demons have a tight turn around, going to UL-Monroe on Tuesday and San Antonio February 25, for pair of matches.
 
"I think it's going to be a good challenge and fun to test our skills and abilities," sophomore Paige Wise said. 
 
NSU will be back home March 14 at 2 p.m. to open conference play against New Jersey Institute of Technology.
