NATCHITOCHES—In her two seasons while with Northwestern State,
Taylor Spitzer has made her mark on the program.
Spitzer added being named honorable mention Louisiana Sports Writers Association All-Louisiana to her list of awards, announced Tuesday.
The team was voted on by sports information directors in the state and media members.
"Taylor was a consistent goal threat for us all season with her ability to finish and beat defenders," head coach
Ian Brophy said. "Her hunger to work and improve has certainly stood out to me as an admirable quality others can look to. I am happy to see her get recognized and look forward to watching her build on this over the next few years."
Spitzer, a sophomore from Allen, Texas, was named Second Team All-Southland Conference. She is the lone representative from NSU on the All-Louisiana team. Spitzer led the team in goals (4), points (9), shots (57) and shots on goal (21).
Two of the four times she found the back of the net this season stood as game-winners in 1-0 victories against Alabama A&M and UIW.
She also found the back of the net in games at LSU and Texas A&M-Commerce.
Spitzer was named SLC Offensive Player of the Week following a weekend in which she tallied goals against UIW and TAMUC.
The sophomore also recorded her assist on
Emily Senatore's game-tying goal at Nicholls.
She was one of four players to play in and start all 19 games for NSU.
Spitzer is the first NSU sophomore to be honored on the All-Louisiana team since
Hallie Field following the spring 2021 season.
Xavier (La.)'s Luci Schroeder was named the All-Louisiana Player of the Year after leading the Gold Nuggets to the Red River Athletic Conference regular season championship.
Four teams—LSU, Xavier, McNeese and Southeastern Louisiana—all had two athletes on the first team to lead the way.
NSU finished 6-10-3 and advanced to the Southland Conference Tournament semifinals in the first year of the Brophy era, taking regular season and tournament champion Lamar to penalty kicks in the tournament.
