NATCHITOCHES – With three multi-hit games and a weekend where she raised her batting average over 100 points,
Laney Roos has been named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Roos led the Lady Demon offense in the five-game Mardi Gras Mambo going 8-for-14, a .571 average, with three extra-base hits leading to a .929 slugging percentage. She hit a pair of doubles and drove in one of NSU's two runs in the win against Lipscomb to start the weekend.
She went 3-for-6 on Saturday with a pair of hits against No. 2 Alabama and ended the weekend with her best day at the plate, a 3-for-4 effort with a home run against Portland State. She scored run each time she reached base in that game and had two RBIs. Her homer in the third inning against the Vikings was the first of back-to-back home runs for NSU with
Kat Marshall sending one out two pitches later.
She also reached base in every game over the weekend, the longest such streak of her career.
The sophomore designated player is hitting .349 on the season and leads the team in slugging (.651), OPS (1.059) and RBIs with 12 and is tied for the team lead of seven extra-base hits with Marshall. They both have four double and three home runs so far this year.
