NATCHITOCHES—After a big shutout victory to conclude the regular season, it comes as no shock that Northwestern State swept the Southland Conference weekly awards for the second time this season.
Fresh off her record-breaking performance against Southeastern Louisiana,
Olivia Draguicevich was named offensive player of the week, while NSU surrendered just three shots in a shutout, which earned
Natalee Henry and
Chloe DeShazer defensive and goalkeeper of the week, respectively.
Draguicevich, who tallied a hat trick to break the school's all-time record in goals with her 36
th, earned her second offensive player of the week honor this season and fifth over the past two seasons.
She has scored 12 goals on the season, just one shy of her 2021 Louisiana Player of the Year campaign. The total leads the conference, as do her 26 points.
NSU (11-3-3, 8-2-2) has won six in a row and has scored 2.5 goals during the winning streak.
Henry earned the defensive player of the week honor, as she was the leader of a back line that held the Lady Lions to just three shot attempts.
As a unit, NSU allowed just one team to shoot more than five times in a game in league play.
The last line of defense, goalkeeper
Chloe DeShazer, recorded her seventh shutout of the season to earn goalkeeper of the week, her third such honor of the season.
The shutout total is tied for third in program history for a single season.
She has a miniscule 0.65 goals against average and a .766 save percentage, playing every minute for NSU on the season.
During NSU's winning streak, DeShazer has only allowed two goals while posting four shutouts and has registered a goals against average of just 0.33.
NSU begins its quest for a second consecutive SLC Tournament crown when the second-seeded Lady Demons play seventh-seeded McNeese on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex.
