BATON ROUGE—Paige Wise and Sofi Garcia each won their qualifying draw to reach the main draw before falling on the second day of the ITA Southern Regional.

Playing on the campus of LSU, the pairing each won in straight sets to win their qualifying matches. Wise dominated set one before winning a tight first second set to finish off a 6-1, 7-5 win against Samford's Olivia Jablonski.

Garcia joined Wise in the main draw with a dominant victory against Samford's Samantha Nanere, 6-2, 6-0.

Garcia dropped a tough one in the main draw in the round of 64 to LSU's Nikita Vishwase 6-2, 6-2. Wise also fell in the main draw to Lillian Gabrielsen of Ole Miss 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, the pairing of Garcia and Wise fought right with the Mississippi State duo of Madelyn Bemisderfer and Alessia Tagliente, but ultimately fell 8-7 (7-3).

"I am happy with how we competed today on the singles court," NSU women's tennis coach Jonas Brobeck said. "We've got a lot of great matches against quality opponents and our legs just ran out of gas a bit towards the end.

"We also did much better with our movement and shot selection in doubles. Let's finish strong tomorrow."

In the back draw matches, Renske Ubachs showed out, winning both singles matches and a doubles match.

In her two singles matches, she defeated UL Monroe's Alice Klinteby in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, before doing the same against New Orleans' Tristanne Dechoux 6-4, 6-1.

The doubles duo of Ubachs and Gig Kanaphuet won against the Mississippi State tandem of Sydney Hrehor and Maddie McKee 8-5.

Kanaphuet lost her first set against ULM's Giovanna Pereira but came back to win the second set and a tight super tiebreaker 12-10 to come away with the win.

She dropped her second match of the afternoon against Tulane's Cora Barber 6-2, 6-3.

On Saturday, Ubachs will play in singles at 9:30 before both doubles teams are playing Samford after that before coming back to Natchitoches.
