NATCHITOCHES – Following a spectacular second-half effort and plenty of vital shots, Northwestern State's
Candice Parramore was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week. She is the third different Lady Demon to earn the honor this year joining
Jordan Todd from week one and
Jiselle Woodson from a week ago.
Parramore defined the word clutch for the Lady Demons (5-3) in their 78-71 road win at Mississippi Valley State on Saturday. She scored 23 points, all coming in the second half and overtime, to lead all scorers and went 11-for-11 from the free throw line. Every shot from the charity stripe for the Dallas native came in the fourth quarter and overtime.
She scored the first six points of the overtime period from the stripe and it was her back-to-back fast break layups in the final minute of the game that helped seal the hard-fought road win. She scored 10 of her 23 points during the pivotal five-minutes of extra time and went 6-for-9 from the field across the final 15 minutes of the game.
The win marked the first time since the 2007-08 season the Lady Demons have won consecutive non-conference road games.
Parramore has converted an impressive 94.6 percent (35-37) of attempts from the charity stripe this season to lead the Southland and rank sixth in the country in free throw percentage. She leads NSU and ranks seventh in the conference in scoring at 12.4 points per game.
Saturday's game was the second time this season Parramore eclipsed 20 points in a game, doing so against Texas A&M-Texarkana with 21 points fueled by a 7-for-8 effort from the line in that game.
She has reached double figures in five of the eight games this season, the second most on the team behind
Monette Bolden's six.
Parramore and the Lady Demons travel to ULM on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. date with the Warhawks before their final home game of 2021 on Saturday against Tarleton State.
