NATCHITOCHES – Three times in the past four months, the Northwestern State volleyball team has seen its two biggest fundraisers canceled by the novel coronavirus pandemic.
 
As such, the Lady Demons are looking for individuals or families to sponsor players for the 2020 season.
 
"On top of the large amount of time and focus they dedicate in the classroom, weight room and on the court, our players always have put in a tremendous amount of time and work in the community and during our numerous fundraisers throughout the year," said head coach Sean Kiracofe, who enters his sixth season in 2020.
 
"As we actively look for cost-saving measures going into our 2020 competition season, we still want to provide our student-athletes with the experience we feel they deserve from the amount of work they put in on a daily basis. With the onset of COVID-19 forcing us to cancel three DigFest events in 2020, our major fundraiser every year, we are asking our friends, family and volleyball alumnae to sponsor either a specific player of their choice or to make a general donation to the 2020 team. We appreciate any past, present and future support from our devoted Demon family and friends. As always, 'Fork 'em, Demons.'"
 
The annual DigFests are Northwestern State's primary fund-raising events, providing the program with financial support that aids with travel, summer scholarships, training equipment purchases and additional program goals.
 
The NSU program has set a goal of $15,000. Each donor who commits at least $25 will receive an exclusive "Wreck Tech" mask that can be worn at the Sept. 1 season opener against Louisiana Tech inside Prather Coliseum.
