NATCHITOCHES – With the uncertainty surrounding the novel coronavirus and COVID-19, the Northwestern State football team has modified fund-raising efforts related to "All In Giving Day," the program's annual Triple B Invitational golf tournament and the related online auction.
"The support already pledged to the Northwestern State football program truly is valued," said head coach
Brad Laird, who begins his third season at the helm of his alma mater. "At this time, it is prudent and responsible for all of us to focus on the larger issues of the day – the health and well-being of our general public."
The auction will remain open through Sept. 4, which is the new tentative date for "All In Giving Day," a Giving Tuesday-type day of donations with all proceeds going directly to the NSU football program. New items will continue to be added to the auction site throughout the extended time. Interested parties can visit
www.NSUDemons.com/footballauction to continue to bid on items.
The new tentative date for the closing of the auction and of "All In Giving Day" aligns with the Demons' 2020 season opener, which comes Sept. 3 at Turpin Stadium against Incarnate Word.
"We thought it would be fun to tag-team the golf tournament with the football home opener and give fans even more of a reason to come back to Natchitoches at the start of football season," said Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs
Dr. Haley Taitano. "What better way to kick-off Labor Day weekend than with the Demons?"
The NSU Athletic Department had billed March 20 as "All In Giving Day," an event similar to the annual Giving Tuesday fundraisers held by NSU Athletics each November. Supporters may still donate directly to the cause by texting "NSUALLIN" to 71777. Message and data rates may apply for text donations. Donations can also be directly made to football at
www.nsudemons.com/allin.
The Triple B Invitational begins with an 11 a.m. check-in at Northwestern Hills Golf Course and includes free food and drinks and there will be awards presented afterward. There also will be a post-tournament social with the location to be determined. Sponsorship and registration information are available at
www.nsudemons.com/tripleb.
