JACKSON, Miss.—The Northwestern State soccer team has been close to recording its first victory of the season the last three matches, and will aim to complete the feat Sunday when it travels to Jackson State for its final road non-conference contest.
The game begins at 1 p.m.
NSU (0-5) has been tied at halftime in the last three matches, but has not been able to break through. The Lady Demons have outshot all three of those opponents, and the combined total in those three contests was 31-14.
The Lady Demons are coming off a 1-0 defeat at UL Monroe.
JSU (0-4) has been outscored 26-1 and has been outshot 92-15 in its first four matches under new head coach Dr. Ted Flogaites. Jackson State scored its first goal of the season in a 6-1 loss at Arkansas State on Thursday. This is the first home contest since Aug. 25 for the Tigers.
In last year's meeting, the Lady Demons received a hat trick from April Trowbridge and they cruised to an 8-0 victory in Natchitoches. Jalen Donaldson scored a pair of goals in the victory as well, and NSU outshot JSU 49-1.
Donaldson is tied for the lead for the Lady Demons with one goal. Sophomore Kiara Padilla and freshman Olivia Draguicevich have the other goals for Northwestern State.
Draguicevich and fellow freshman Rachel Brandt lead NSU in shots with six each, and Draguicevich leads the team in shots on goal with five.
After allowing 41 shots, including 25 on goal in the first two contests, the NSU defense has helped surrender just 14 shots in the last three, and nine on net.
The battle continues at goalkeeper between sophomore Acelya Aydogmus and senior Kayla Bomben. Aydogmus started the first three contests before Bomben started the last one against UL Monroe.
NSU comes back to Natchitoches for the final two non-conference contests, beginning Friday against Texas State.
