NATCHITOCHES—It is a battle of conference unbeatens, as Northwestern State aims for its sixth win in a row against in-state rival McNeese Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex.
NSU (5-5 overall, 2-0 SLC) has won its first two conference contests for the first time since 2006 the last time out when it slowed down the potent Lamar offense, winning 2-1 in overtime on a winner by sophomore
Natalee Henry.
McNeese (6-3, 2-0) has had a similar path to NSU to get to 2-0. The Cowgirls won 1-0 in the opener against Southeastern Louisiana before going on the road and knocking off defending Southland Conference champion Central Arkansas 2-1 in double overtime. They are on a four-match winning streak.
Henry was the 11
th member of the Lady Demons to score a point this year. Freshman
Olivia Draguicevich leads the way with four goals and eight points. She is the only player with more than one goal. Five players—Henry,
Jalen Donaldson,
Kiara Padilla, Sam Hanking and
Hallie Field—all have one apiece. Freshmen
Olivia Mattsson and
Jayme Haynes each have two assists to lead the way for NSU.
The defense has been the calling card for the Lady Demons, allowing a combined two goals during their five-match winning streak.
Acelya Aydogmus has started both conference matches and has allowed one goal in 187 minutes of action in the two contests. She has two shutouts as well.
Kayla Bomben has played in more 260 minutes and has allowed just three goals, a 1.03 goals against average. She also has a 75 percent save percentage.
