Box Score GRAMBLING—Northwestern State's soccer team created chances against Grambling, but could not squeak one to the back of the net in a 1-0 loss to the  Lady Tigers Friday night.

The Lady Demons (0-3) had the game's first chance, and perhaps the best chance for NSU, as defender Natalee Henry had a good look from just outside the box in the game's first five minutes, but her rocket hit the crossbar and Olivia Draguicevich tried to put home the rebound, but she was offside.

The lone goal came on a close-range shot from Michaela Danyo to the bottom left corner of the net after the ball hit a Lady Demon to keep Danyo onside in the 67th minute.
"Credit to Grambling," co-head coach Jess Jobe said. "They showed tremendous effort and desire. They never stopped and put us under a lot of pressure. It's a tough environment to play at."

Northwestern State controlled the first half, with most of the possession in the first half taking place in the Grambling (3-1) end. The Lady Demons outshot the Lady Tigers 6-0 in the first half.

Once again, sophomore Kiara Padilla came in and made a difference as a sparkplug off the bench. Padilla fired in two shots in the first half, both on net. NSU had four shots on goal in the first half.

In the second half, the momentum shifted a bit, as Grambling put on more pressure. Grambling was applying heat on NSU, and Danyo put the lone goal of the game in the back of the net.

NSU had opportunities late, but a shot by Draguicevich with little time remained was saved by Grambling's Hanna Johnson.

After allowing at least 15 shots against both Baylor and North Texas, the Lady Demons defense allowed just three shots against the Lady Tigers.

"We did pretty well limiting their chances," Jobe said. We got a lot shots on the frame ourselves, but we let Grambling build in confidence and gave them a chance, and they took it."

NSU outshot Grambling in the game 11-3, and shots on goal 6-2, but was unable to shoot one past Johnson. NSU goalkeeper Acelya Aydogmus made one save in the match.
Draguicevich, Henry, Padilla and Rachel Brandt all had two shots to lead the Lady Demons.

The Lady Demons return to Natchitoches for the first regular season home match of the season against Louisiana Tech Sunday. Admission will be free for all fans who come to the game thanks to the sponsorship of the Louisiana Army National Guard.
