PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Sprinter Micah Larkins raised his stock on a collegiate, national and global level with a win in the 100 meter dash while also leading the 4x100 relay to victory Saturday as Northwestern State track and field representatives claimed a gold in every event entered at the Prairie View A&M Relays.
 
Larkins, a senior, claimed the 100 crown, setting a new venue record at 10.26. The time ranks 12^th in the world, second in the country and first in the NCAA among wind-legal times this season. Carr, a sophomore, also placed fifth at 10.66, his best time this season.
 
The Princeton native is the reigning Southland Conference champion in the 100 and shares the school record in the event with a time of 10.02.
 
Head track and field coach Mike Heimerman says the trip was a success even with only four athletes competing.
 
"The 100 times are right where I want, and they're only going to get faster," said Heimerman.
 
The All- American trio of Larkins, Tre'Darius Carr and Kie'Ave Harry were joined by Florida State transfer Eddie Clark for a second time this season, winning the 4x100 relay with a mark of 40.14. The time bested both opposing teams by over a second as Texas Southern (41.38) placed second and Texas College (42.28) came in third.
 
"It was a good day. We had a small mishap in the 4x100 between Micah and Eddie," said Heimerman. "There was a crosswind because of the way the track is positioned. It's only the second time this group has ran together, so they are still figuring it out."        
 
The remainder of the NSU track and field teams had the weekend off. Qualifiers are headed to the Texas Relays next Thursday-Saturday.
