NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State's first All-American baseball player will enjoy another moment under the lights.

Third baseman Danny Bob Turner, a second-team NAIA All-American in 1967, will be honored as the Exchange Bank & Trust Demon Great of the Game during the first quarter of Thursday's Battle for Chief Caddo football game against Stephen F. Austin, which kicks off at 6 p.m.

Turner batted .411 during the 1967 season to win the Gulf States Conference batting title and help the Demons reach the Midwest Regional that season. He was even better in conference play, hitting .443.

Turner finished fifth in the nation in batting average in 1967 and once collected triples in four straight at-bats in a doubleheader against then-Southwestern Louisiana during the 1967 season.

A four-year baseball letterman, Turner was a three-time All-Gulf States Conference selection and was part of Northwestern State's undefeated 1966 football team.

A Demon Great of the Game is spotlighted at each home football game. In its first six seasons, the Great of the Game presented by Exchange Bank and Trust has honored 33 outstanding figures in the 111-year history of NSU athletics. Turner joins former NSU track and field All-American javelin thrower Latrell Frederick, All-American tight end Justin Aldredge, Pro Bowl return specialist Terrance McGee and two-sport standout Dick Reding as this season's Demon Great of the Game honorees.

Exchange Bank and Trust has been a key supporter of NSU Athletics throughout its long history as the oldest financial institution in Louisiana.
