BATON ROUGE—The fall tennis season is wrapping up for Northwestern State, as it heads to the campus of LSU for the ITA Southern Regional.
Unlike the other fall tournaments, this is single elimination.
"We look forward to competing in our toughest tournament of the fall," head coach
Patric DuBois said. "This is our whole region together with several highly national ranked opponents competing. This tournament is all about opportunities for all of our players as we wind down the fall tournament season."
All seven Lady Demons are playing in the regional.
Play will begin with qualifier doubles with
Judit Castillo Gargallo and
Dorota Szczygielska, as they play Hanna Blinouskaya and Matilde Mulatero before the qualifier singles start.
Four Lady Demons—Castillo Gargallo, Szczygielska,
Emilija Dancetovic and
Patrycja Polanska—will take part in the singles qualifiers.
In the main doubles draw, starting Friday, Dancetovic and
Ela Iwaniuk are playing against LSU's tandem of Anna Loughlan and Luba Vasilyuk. The Lady Demon duo of Polanska and
Mariella Minetti will play one of the qualifier winners.
Iwaniuk leads NSU into the main singles draw, as she plays against the No. 13 ranked player in the Regional, Alabama's Moka Ito. Freshmen Minetti and
Olivia Alfredsson are joining her in the main singles bracket. Alfredsson will play against Samford's Natalia de Ugarte, while Minetti will match up with McNeese's Marija Mastilovic.
Iwaniuk reached the finals of her draw last season in the ITA Southern Regional in Oxford, Miss.
