ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Northwestern State soccer team hopes one early season trend continues Sunday when the Lady Demons head to Mississippi Valley State for a 2 p.m. game.
After dropping Friday's match 1-0 at UL Lafayette despite taking more shots, NSU hopes to have a second successful Sunday.
The Lady Demons lost its season opener on Aug. 17 (on a Friday) 1-0 against UTSA before rebounding in a major way with a 3-2 victory at Louisiana Tech.
NSU co-head coach
Jess Jobe said his players had a sense of strong play Friday despite not getting the result, and the Lady Demons will be eager to get back on the pitch again.
"The girls are feeling this one, they felt like a win got away from them," Jobe said. "We want to get off to a quick start (Sunday), be on the front foot, score first and never look back.
"We've got some seniors and upperclassmen that understand the process and what's taking place, and we're looking for a better performance Sunday. We felt like we played well enough to win (Friday), but we're going to reflect and think about things we can do better. Overall we have to be pleased with where we're at."
NSU won its only meeting with MVSU (1-2) in 2017 when the Lady Demons scored four second-half goals in a 4-0 win in Itta Bena.
The Delta Devilettes are coming off their first win of the season with a 3-1 result against fellow Southland Conference member Nicholls. MVSU had allowed five goals in each of its first two losses to The Citadel and Mercer.
Senior
April Trowbridge scored two of her three goals in 2017 at MVSU, and she's already scored a pair of goals this season against Louisiana Tech.
NSU is 26-1 all-time against Southwestern Athletic Conference opponents.
