NATCHITOCHES – On the first Saturday of November, Jazz Ferguson hauled in three touchdown catches at Abilene Christian to tie a school single-game record.

Thanks to an announcement from Hero Sports on Wednesday morning, Ferguson grabbed his third All-American berth following a record-breaking junior season.

Ferguson, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound St. Francisville-West Feliciana High School product, was named to Hero Sports' third-team All-American squad, picking up his second All-America nod in as many days. Ferguson was a second-team All-American pick by STATS on Tuesday.

This past week, Ferguson was named a third-team All-American by The Associated Press.

"Individual awards come because of the team structure," first-year head coach Brad Laird said. "What Jazz brought to (offensive coordinator Brad) Smiley was a target who could make a play at any time. He did that. He made everyone around him better. Any time you have the opportunity to have postseason awards, he'll be the first to tell you it was because of his teammates."

The play-making LSU transfer added to a list of postseason accolades that also includes the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year honor, which came after Ferguson grabbed 66 passes for a school-record 1,117 yards and a school single-season record 13 touchdown receptions.

Ferguson recorded six 100-yard receiving games, setting a school record, and his 101.5 receiving yards per game established another.

In addition to leading the Southland Conference in receptions, he ranks seventh in the FCS in touchdown catches, 12th in receiving yardage, 14th in receiving yards per game and 19th in receptions per game (6.0).

Ferguson equaled the school single-game record with three touchdown catches at Abilene Christian on Nov. 3, and one week later, caught the game-tying, 2-point conversion and game-winning touchdown in a 37-34 double-overtime upset of 18th-ranked arch rival McNeese at Turpin Stadium.

Earlier in the season, his remarkable one-handed, catch-and-run, 70-yard touchdown at Lamar landed at No. 2 on ESPN's nightly Top 10 plays. Ferguson made those plays from a variety of looks throughout the season.

His 82 points are sixth in NSU single-season history. the highest total by a receiver in school single-season history and the lone receiver-produced total in the top 10.

Ferguson was part of a Demons offense that set or tied 20 school single-game and single-season records under first-year offensive coordinator Brad Smiley.

He is the first Demon named an All-American wide receiver. Previous Demons receivers Ed Eagan (all-purpose) and Al Dodd (safety) have earned All-American honors at other positions.

This is the fifth All-American honor collected by the Demons this season as kick returner Myles Ward was named an honorable mention Freshman All-American by Hero Sports on Monday and safety Hayden Bourgeois was a first-team selection on Hero Sports' Sophomore All-American Team, which was announced Tuesday.
