FORT WORTH, Texas – The Northwestern State Lady Demon tennis team went a combined 2-3 in singles play on day two of TCU's Haunted Horn Frog Classic.
NSU's four competitors all saw action, with junior
Polina Mutel and sophomore
Judit Castillo picking up wins on Saturday.
Mutel's 6-4, 6-3, win came against Middle Tennessee State's Luisa Zirilli. The flight four victory pushes her singles record to 3-1 in fall.
In flight five, Castillo defeated Texas A&M's Margo Taylor 6-2,6-3, to record her fourth singles triumph on the season. Castillo then played a flight-six match against Rice's Sofie Moenster, where the Lady Demon lost 6-4, 6-3, moving her singles record to 4-2 in fall.
NSU's
Elzbieta Iwaniuk and
Polina Ivanova also competed, but neither was able to add to the Lady Demon victory total.
Ivanova played two matches, losing in flight three to MTSU's Costanza Magazzini in three sets, 4-6,7-5, 10-8. The senior also competed in flight five against TCU's Elizabeth Tedford, dropping both sets 7-5, 6-3.
In Iwaniuk's only action of the day she fell 6-3, 7-5 to Rice's Anna Bowtell.
Ivanova and Iwaniuk records move to 3-3 on the fall season.
