THIBODAUX -- The Northwestern State soccer team won't be making a return trip to the Southland Conference Tournament, but the Lady Demons are playing for a different goal Sunday at Nicholls.
Â
NSU (5-11, 1-8 SLC) has lost only once to Nicholls in its program history, a 2015 defeat in Thibodaux.
Â
Sunday's match starts at 1 p.m.
Â
The Lady Demons are 23-1-2 all-time against the Colonels, but NSU is looking for its first win in the series since 2014 after the two teams tied in Natchitoches in 2016.
Â
NSU is aiming to snap a five-match losing streak after falling Friday at Southeastern 3-1.
Â
Nicholls (5-10-1, 2-6-1) is still scrapping for an SLC Tournament spot with two matches remaining.
Â
The Colonels have been shut out of six of its nine league contests, but Northwestern State's 23 goals allowed in nine conference matches is second worst in the SLC.
Â
Junior forward
Brittany Caserma ranks fourth in the league with seven goals, a career high.
Â
Freshman Yeaya Gamboa ranks eighth in the SLC with 13 points, tied as the second best freshman in the league in terms of points.
Â
The Lady Demons feature 10 seniors, eight of which have started double-digit games this season.
Â
NSU will return to Natchitoches to host Central Arkansas on Friday in the season finale.
