SHREVEPORT – Northwestern State women's soccer home weekend continues on the road Sunday when the Lady Demons host Texas Wesleyan at Shreveport's Cargill Park.

NSU (2-2) couldn't play in its home Lady Demon Soccer Complex because of standing water on the field. Sunday's contest begins at 1 p.m.

On Friday, NSU scored three second-half goals to push past Jackson State, 3-0, in Alexandria, and NSU coach George Van Linder is hoping for a quicker start against a head coach he knows very well.

"(Texas Wesleyan coach Josh Gibbs) was my assistant at Baylor, so he knows all of our tricks," Van Linder joked. "We've talked back and forth for years about soccer, never thinking we would play each other.

"I've shared all my secrets. I might have thought differently if I knew we were going to play him."

The Lady Demons cranked up the offense in the second half Friday as sophomore April Trowbridge scored two late goals after senior Camila Ardila's free kick put NSU up 1-0 early in the second half. Trowbridge leads NSU with three goals, two of which were assisted by junior Esdeina Gonzalez this season.

"We had a little bit of a slow start, and we want a solid 90 minutes against Texas Wesleyan," Van Linder said. "Now it's about can we put two games in a row together and keep that intensity.
"Good teams win on Friday, but great teams win on Sunday."

Junior goalkeeper Alex Latham posted her second shutout Friday, but she needed to make just two saves thanks to a defense that limited JSU opportunities. The Lady Demons held a staunch possession advantage, outshooting JSU 19-4.

Texas Wesleyan (1-0), an NAIA member who has been a power in the Sooner Athletic Conference under Gibbs the past decade, had their game Thursday rained out. The Rams beat UT Dallas 6-1 in their opener.
