SAN MARCOS – The Northwestern State soccer team ended non-conference play Sunday with a 1-0 loss at Texas State.
The Lady Demons (3-4) allowed just 13 shots to Texas State (3-4), NSU's fewest against an NCAA Division I opponent besides Jackson State.
But the Bobcats made one of its shots count as Jordan Kondikoff scored her first goal of the season with a 15-yard shot in the 41
st minute. Texas State's Clarissa Leon and Taylor Allen were credited with assists on the goal.
"It's another frustrating game for us because we had solid chances to win today and this past Friday at UTSA," said NSU coach
George Van Linder. "We had a lot of very good moments this weekend, but clearly it wasn't enough.
"Despite the results, this weekend was great to prepare us for conference play. Now we need to get results, and the team is working hard and will be ready to do that."
NSU junior goalkeeper
Alex Latham made five saves in the loss with three other shots deflected by Lady Demon defenders.
Three different NSU players each attempted two shots (one on goal) to account six of the Lady Demons' seven total shots with three on frame.
Senior
Camila Ardila had NSU's best opportunity, challenging Texas State goalkeeper Kathryn Budde in the 87
th minute. Junior
Esdeina Gonzalez and
April Trowbridge each attempted two shots.
Budde and Lauren Martin teamed up for the win between the posts with a combined three saves.
NSU dropped its second match of the weekend after a 3-1 loss at UTSA.
The Lady Demons will attempt to shake off their third shutout of the season as they return to action Friday to host Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m.
