Soccer ends non-conference season Sunday at Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Attempting to overcome a disappointing loss Friday, the Northwestern State soccer team finishes its non-conference schedule Sunday at Texas State.

The Lady Demons (3-3) will kick off at 1 p.m. against the Bobcats (2-4-1), who fell to Stephen F. Austin 3-2 in double overtime.

NSU had a second-half lead at UTSA before the Roadrunners struck for three goals in a 3-1 Lady Demons' loss.

Texas State hasn't won a match in its last five, but NSU coach George Van Linder is aware of the dangers the Bobcats present. Texas State led NSU 3-0 in Natchitoches this past season before storms cancelled the game.

"It should be a great game against a well-coached team," Van Linder said. "Both of these teams will be scratching and clawing for a win Sunday, and both teams will surely put a lot of importance into this game.

"We saw some good things Friday, such as sophomore Jacqueline Manza making some quality plays along with sophomore Brittany Caserma. We're focused and ready to go."

Texas State leads the all-time series 13-8-3.

NSU sophomore April Trowbridge scored her team-high fourth goal Friday before UTSA piled on three goals in the last 32 minutes.

Texas State's Rachel Grout and Clarissa Leon have each scored two goals for the Bobcats.

The Bobcats are 1-2 against the Southland Conference, beating Lamar (2-0) while falling to McNeese (2-0) and SFA.

NSU is 1-0 against the Sun Belt, topping Little Rock on the road 2-0.
