LAKE CHARLES -- The Northwestern State men's cross country team ran well as a pack Saturday, but now the Demons must close the gap to the lead pack in future races.
The NSU men finished last in the five-team meet at the Asics Cowboy Stampede at McNeese State, but the five Demon scorers finished 13 runners apart from each other.
Grant Butts led the way with a 19th-place finish in the 47-runner field, running the 4-mile race in 22:03.
"We ran well as a pack today, we just have to close the gap on that lead pack to improve our scores."
Rushford completed the 5K race in 19:19 with Sitarz finishing in 20:59.
"Both girls were solid today and heading in the right direction for the conference championships," McReynolds said. "The conditioning is really coming through."
Rushford has three top-10 finishes in four meets this season.
