AUBURN, Ala. – Northwestern State's No. 2 doubles team of
Polina Ivanova and
Iryna Vardanian rolled to the championship of the B consolation doubles draw Sunday at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional women's tennis championships, ending the fall season.
Ivanova, a sophomore, and Vardanian, a frieshman, dominated Samford's Annika Hepp and Savannah Wood by 8-0 Sunday morning to claim the title.
Ivanova and Vardanian won twice Saturday morning in the B doubles consolation draw. They prevailed 8-4 in the quarterfinal round over Lisa Ferrauti and Tereza Melicharkova of Troy, then posted an 8-6 nailbiter over Caroline Kelly and Louise Ronaldson of Mississippi State.
The three-day event featured the top four players from 17 teams, headed by Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Auburn.
