CONWAY, Ark. – The Northwestern State soccer team opens a five-game road swing on Sunday when the Lady Demons travel to Central Arkansas for a 1 o'clock matchup at the Bill Stephens Soccer Complex in Southland Conference action.
The rest of the road trip features Sam Houston State, Abilene Christian, McNeese State and Nicholls.
NSU (3-7-1, 0-2-1 SLC) played to a 1-1 draw with Houston Baptist on Friday. The Huskies put up an early goal on a free kick after a Lady Demon mistake, but
Yanci Johnson tied the match shortly after halftime. NSU outshot HBU 18-10, and won the shots on-goal battle 8-6.
Central Arkansas is 4-4-1 overall and 0-1 in league play, including a 2-0 loss to Texas A&M- Corpus Christi Friday night.
Johnson is third on the team with six points this season, behind
Esdeina Gonzalez (15) and
Julia Ranalli (7). Cache Haley,
Nikki Saunders and
Cassandra Briscoe follow with five points apiece. NSU goalkeeper
Alex Latham has a 3-5-1 record and a 2.68 goals against average. In 738 minutes played, she has 36 saves in 109 shots faced.
Dayna Mounie tops UCA with nine points, four goals and one assist. Shelby Wilson has eight points, and Alex Moore and Allie Coleman each have seven points. Goalkeeper Anna Hughes (4-3-1) has a .746 save percentage and a 1.83 goals against average.
NSU leads the all-time series with UCA 5-2-2. UCA won last year's meeting 3-0, but the two seasons prior ended in ties. The Lady Demons are 1-4 on the road this season, with one loss to a Southland Conference rival, Lamar.
Northwestern State returns home to open a regular season ending homestand on Oct.19 against Southeastern Louisiana.
