Box Score NATCHITOCHES – Antonia Land's goal in the 21^st minute gave Louisiana-Monroe all it needed in a 3-0 win over the Northwestern State women's soccer team on a brutally hot Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.

"(The heat) was a huge factor, but honestly we thought would be an advantage for us," said NSU coach George Van Linder after the Lady Demons slipped to 1-1. "We played 26 players today and we're really proud of our depth."
 
According to weather reports, the thermometer read 91 degrees at the start of the game, but humidity caused it to feel like 120 degrees.  The head referee mandated a timeout in each half to allow players to rehydrate.
 
Land's goal was among three shots the Warhawks took in the first half.  They led Northwestern State by one shot at the break.
 
Karlea Fehr made it 2-0 in the 82^nd minute when she broke free at midfield and drew out Lady Demon goalkeeper Brooke Boubonaise and chipped it past her.  Seven minutes later Karen Tamayo scored when Cassidy Kunicyn crossed the ball from the sideline to Tamayo who scored on it.
 
NSU had six shots in the contest, two less than ULM, which opened its season with the win.
 
"We knew our attack would be a little rusty this early in the season, and I think that was the frustrating part for us as a staff," said Van Linder. "We had some opportunities to score goals, but couldn't put them away.
 
"We ran out of time for those, and had some mistakes that we paid dearly for in the back," he said.
 
Alex Latham started a goalkeeper for NSU and had one save and one goal allowed.  Brooke Bourbonais entered at the start of the second half and allowed two goals and added a save.
 
Samantha Moreno had three saves, and played the entire game between the pipes for ULM.  
 
Northwestern State returns to the field on Friday when they travel to LSU to play the Tigers at 7 o'clock in the LSU Soccer Stadium.  The Lady Demons will not be home until Sept. 5 to match up with Arkansas-Little Rock.
