Box Score
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – C.J. Webster had three hits and three runs batted in after his first three at-bats, and Cameron Brewer was dominant in his four innings pitched in the Northwestern State baseball team's 7-4 win over Incarnate Word Saturday afternoon to even the Southland Conference series at Sullivan Field.

The rubber match between the Demons (26-21, 14-9 SLC) and Cardinals (15-28, 6-11) is slated for 1 o'clock on Sunday.

Webster lined a triple into the right center field gap and knocked in Nathan Lyons, who doubled to left center field two batters earlier, to score the Demons' first run. Webster scored one batter later on a single through the left side by Joel Atkinson, and gave NSU a 2-1 lead.

The Demon catcher singled in the fourth inning, and then hit a two-run single to left field in the fifth inning.  His single in the fifth capped a four-run frame that gave NSU a 7-3 lead, and scored Chase Daughdrill and Lyons.  Daughdrill reached on a single to right field and Lyons on an error.

"C.J. had a great day at the plate," said Demon head coach Lane Burroughs. "I thought all our guys came out focused, and ready to get a win. Offensively, I thought we saw the ball and took as good of swings as we have all year."

Brewer, who earned his first save of the season, pitched four scoreless innings and allowed three hits and struck out one batter.  He relieved Josh Oller (3-1) in the sixth inning.  Oller earned the win on five innings pitched with two earned runs allowed on eight hits and three walks.

"That is the second time we've extended (Brewer), but he was throwing so well we had to send him back for the ninth inning," said Burroughs. "He filled up the zone, and had all of his pitches working.

"Josh Oller threw well, and competed his tail off. The reason we got him out of the game was because he threw a lot of stressful pitches," said Burroughs. "He had to pitch out of a lot of jams. He gave us a quality start, and proud of him for competing the way he did."

Brewer never faced more than four batters in an inning, and no runner made it past first base.  He only threw 40 pitches in the outing.

Incarnate Word tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second, but Caleb Dugas responded in the third inning with a solo home run over the left wall on a 1-0 count.

"Dugas had the big home run and the sacrifice fly.  Nathan Lyons also continues to swing the bat really well too," said Burroughs.

Dugas has a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning that scored Edwin Gomez from third base. Gomez led off the inning with a triple to right field.  Cort Brinson continued the inning with a two-out single to right field, and scored when Nick Heath was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Dylan Boss (2-5) took the loss on 4.2 innings pitch.  He allowed four earned runs on nine hits and one walk.  Kris Looper relived him and lasted 4.1 innings.  He gave up five hits and struck out three.

Webster finished the game with three hits in five at-bats, and Duags was one of three with two RBIs at the plate.  Gomez, Underwood and Lyons had two hits apiece.  Every Demon starter reached base in the game, and all but one had a hit.

The Demons outhit the Cardinals 14-11, and had five extra-base hits.

Jason Stone was 2-of-5 for UIW, and Bryce Shepard and Ethan McGill were each 2-of-3.

Northwestern State will not play a midweek game before they host New Orleans in another Southland Conference series.  That set starts at 6:30 on Friday.
