HOUSTON -- While the Northwestern State basketball teams try to punch their tickets to March Madness at the Southland Conference Tournament in nearby Katy, NSU supporters are invited to participate in the first Houston-area NSU Demons Unlimited golf tournament on Saturday, March 15.
The four-person scramble event will take place at Bear Creek Golf World, 16001 Clay Road in Houston. Tee time is 8 a.m. with a shotgun start on the beautiful President's Course, followed by a luncheon and awards ceremony. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams, as well as to winners of contests for longest drives and closest to the pin.
Entry fee is $125 per person or $400 per team, which includes green fees, cart rental, range balls, a 2014 Tournament Rewards Card, a Callaway/TaylorMade discount card, a One Month Players Club Pass, a Presidents Course guide book, and a pair of drink tickets good for draft beer, soda water, coffee or tea. Mulligans will also be available for purchase.

All proceeds benefit the Demons Unlimited Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that supports NSU Athletics. The newly-named foundation is replacing the NSU Athletic Association.
"With rising tuition and expenses necessary for operating a competitive Division I athletics program, the role of the Demons Unlimited Foundation is to broaden the support base for our athletic program. We have a large alumni group in the Houston area. This golf tournament is one event among many initiatives that will help us generate the revenue necessary to maintain and enhance athletic and academic success for our student athletes," said
Adam Jonson, Executive Director of the DUF.
The Lady Demon basketball team hopes to play in the Southland Conference Tournament semifinals in nearby Katy on the same afternoon as the Saturday morning golf event, with the women's championship game set for Sunday, March 16, at noon.
The Demons are aiming to defend their 2013 Southland Tournament title. The men's semifinal round is Friday night, March 14, with the championship game Saturday night at 7:30 in Katy at the Merrell Center.
