Box Score NATCHITOCHES -- Three goals in the first half, two by Central Arkansas' Adriana Lucar, gave the Sugar Bears a 3-0 win over the Northwestern State women's soccer team Sunday afternoon in Southland Conference play.
Shelby Wilson (4) scored first for UCA (5-3-2, 2-0-0 Southland Conference) driving down the middle of the field between two NSU (3-7-1, 1-2-1 SLC) defenders before scoring from 18 yards out in the 15
th minute.
"We were disappointed that we came out flat," said head coach
George Van Linder. "We had a midweek game, which we haven't had this season, but we feel our team is veteran enough that we should be able to overcome that and not show up flat."
The second goal of the game came on a penalty kick from Lucar (6, 7) in the 21
st minute after she was fouled in the box. She scored four minutes later when Haley Montgomery dropped a pass in front of Lucar from about 30 yards out that gave her the chance to score from just outside the box.
Central Arkansas outshot the Lady Demons 5-4 in the first half, but NSU had 11 shots on the game to the Sugar Bears' seven.
Camila Ardila,
Louise Enberg, and
Shelby Balmer all took three shots each, and Balmer led the team with two shots on-goal.
"We talked about desire during halftime," said Van Linder. "We just felt like we weren't working as hard as we could to the ball. We just tried to battle the 50-50 ball and that's where we started upset them."
Jessica Danku played the entire match between the pipes and had one save. Kaitlyn Keith started the match at goalkeeper for UCA and was replaced at halftime for Lyndzey Goff. Each had two saves.
The Lady Demons will host Sam Houston Friday at 7 o'clock and have the following Sunday off.
