Box Score NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State's Jessica Danku and Lamar's Bailey Fontenot went head-to-head Tuesday night for a 0-0 draw in Southland Conference action in the makeup game from Friday night's rainout.

Danku and Fontenot had nine saves each, but Northwestern State's (2-6-1, 0-1-1 SLC) offense was put up seven more shots that the Cardinals (3-5-1, 0-1-1 SLC).  NSU had 24 shots, 11 of which were taken in the first period.

"It kind of became a chess match, and they are a well-coached team. He (Lamar's head coach Orlando Cervantes) made some adjustments to what we were doing," said head coach George Van Linder. "I was happy with the way our team responded, especially the defensive players.

"That's a team that made the championship game in the conference tournament and they're a tough team," said Van Linder. "I was proud of the way our team responded, and I believe it's only a positive for us."

Ashlee Savona led the Lady Demons in shots with six followed by Johanna Sigvardsson with five.  Sigvardsson just missed a goal in the first period when she was one-on-one with the Fontenot and hit the right post trying to squeeze it by her.

Savona, Brooke Eastburg, and Cassandra Briscoe all had two shots on-goal.

"Anytime you tie a game, one team feels like it's a loss and the other sees it as a win," said Van Linder.  "We walk away feeling a little bit like a loss because we felt like we had so many chances.  A tie is a tie, and we'll take those points."

Three points are awarded to teams that win, and one point to teams that tie.  Entry into the Southland Conference Tournament is based on points.

"We'll take the point, and you never know when that may help you get into the tournament or get a good spot in it," said Van Linder.

The Lady Demons dominated the first half with 11 shots to LU's seven, and seven corner kicks to zero from the Cardinals.

"We were very happy and felt like we had them on their heels," said Van Linder.  "As a team I think you want to have a good first impression, and we felt like we did that."

Kristin Bos was match's leader in shots with seven.  Five other Cardinals had two apiece, which was the closest to Bos.

The Lady Demons will return to action on Friday when the travel to Houston Baptist at 7 o'clock.  NSU will return home to open a five-game home stand on Sunday with Central Arkansas at 1 o'clock.
