BATON ROUGE –
Janae Allen earned the top finish of the day for the Northwestern State track and field teams as she placed second in the discus at LSU's Alumni Gold meet on Saturday.
Allen was the runner-up, throwing over seven feet further than the third place finisher as she registered a mark of 161-01. The senior also competed in the shot put (45-02.50) and hammer throw (165-02), placing seventh in both events.
NSU's
Quiana Griffin ran third in the b-section of the 400m dash, clocking in at a season-best 54.93 while Demon senior
Kendal Taylor took third in the b-section of the 100m dash, finishing in 10.69 seconds.
The Demon relay squads had their best outing of the season as both improved on their times.
The 4x100 Demon team of
Gabriel White,
Hanoj Carter, Taylor and
Justin Walker crossed the finish line in a blistering 40.08, placing fifth overall and third amongst collegiate competitors.
The men's 4x400 team of
Lawrence Jackson,
Jarrod Charles,
Dezrick Williams and
Keenan Jackson also came in fifth, cutting almost three seconds off their previous season-best with a time of 3:13.56.
Lady Demon freshman
Rechelle Bessard posted a new personal record in the discus, earning a fifth place finish with a throw of 153-02. Bessard also placed 11
th in the shot put with a throw of 43-04.50.
Triple jumper
Aaron Williams cleared 50 feet for the second time ever, placing fifth with a leap of 50-04.50.
NSU will take next weekend off before traveling to Huntsville, Texas on Thursday, May 2 to compete in the Sam Houston Twilight meet.
