Lady Demons fall to Louisiana Tech

Box Score NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State softball team lost a hard fought battle to non-conference rival Louisiana Tech Wednesday evening, falling 5-0 in six innings when the game was called due to approaching weather.
 
The Lady Techsters (20-17) got on the board early in the first with three runs off of four hits. La Tech was able to hold the Lady Demons (28-10) at an arm's length for the remainder of the game, keeping them scoreless.
 
Anna Cross kept the fire going for La. Tech as she led off the second inning with a shot over the center field wall.
 
NSU put up a good fight in its next at-bat, putting three runners on before a ground out by Shenequia Abby.
 
The Lady Demons continued to put runners on in coming innings but were unable to score.
 
La. Tech picked up the fifth and final run on a RBI single up the middle by Janna Frandrup.
 
Cali Burke had the only hit of the evening for the Lady Demons when she singled to left field in the fourth.
 
Brooke Boening (7-5), Kylie Roos and Kaylee Guidry combined in the circle for five strikeouts while allowing 11 hits.
 
“It is always a hard fought battle against Louisiana Tech,” said head coach Donald Pickett. “We've played them so many times this season that it has been a very competitive run.”
 
The Lady Demons return to Southland Conference play on Saturday as they travel to Stephen F. Austin for a three game series beginning at one o'clock on Saturday. NSU will return home next Saturday to host conference newcomer Houston Baptist at 3:00.
