Box Score NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma clinched a series win over the Northwestern State baseball team with a 7-2 win Saturday afternoon on a four-run third inning and a three-run sixth.

The Sooners (16-4) defeated the Demons (9-12) 1-0 Friday night. The final match of the three-game set will be played Sunday at 1 o'clock.

Matt Oberste sent Max White, who reached on a hit by pitch from Demon starting pitcher A.J. Funk (0-3), to the plate on a single to left field in the third inning. Two batters later, Hector Lorenzana singled up the middle to score Kolbey Carpenter and Oberste.

The Sooners scored all three runs in the sixth inning with two outs, and started with a Garrett Carey home run over the left field wall.

Hunter Haley singled to left field and later scored after Jack Mayfield doubled to center field. Mayfield later scored on a Craig Akin single to center.

NSU scored its two runs in the eighth inning that began with a leadoff double to left field by Zack Costa and a Mitch Huckabay single to right field to put a man on first and third.

After Huckabay advanced to second, Cort Brinson grounded out to second base to score Costa and Huckabay scored after Nick Purdy singled to center field.

Dillon Overton (5-1) got the start for the Sooners and pitched 7.1 innings and allowed six hits, both runs, one walk, and struck out five.

“We faced another great arm today and a potential first rounder in the baseball draft,” said head coach Lane Burroughs.

Ralph Garza Jr. rounded out the eighth inning with only one hit, and Jacob Evans finished the game with one walk and two strikeouts.

Funk pitched four frames and allowed five hits and four runs with a walk. Zach Krebs and Ashton Sivigliano each pitched two innings. Krebs gave up four hits and three runs.

“Funk left some pitches up, and they took advantage of them,” said Burroughs. “OU has a very good club, but our guys competed their tails off.”

The Demons finished the game with seven hits, and no Demon had more than one hit in the game. Oklahoma had 11 hits on the day, and Carey, Carpenter, Oberste, and Lorenzana each had two base-knocks.

NSU takes on LSU Wednesday before taking on Southeastern Louisiana on Friday to open up Southland Conference play.
