Virgoe leads Lady Demons to victory over Southeast Missouri

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONROE – Brittany Virgoe notched five RBI for the Northwestern State Lady Demon softball team on day two of the ULM Mardi Gras Classic, allowing the Lady Demons to split a pair of games with UC-Santa Barbara and Southeast Missouri State.

Game 1

The Lady Demons held off the Gauchos until the fourth inning when Lauren Boser hit an RBI single to left center, knocking in Keilani Jennings.

In the sixth, Jennings led off with a home run which kick-started a scoring spree as UC-Santa Barbara grabbed four runs, leaving NSU trailing 5-0.

Sophomore Brittany Virgoe led the Lady Demons from the plate with two hits.

Junior Kaylee Guidry faced 23 batters in five innings, striking out one and allowing eight hits while senior Brooke Boening struck out one and walked three in the sixth.

Game 2

NSU bounced back from a tough loss to UC-Santa Barbara by defeating Southeast Missouri State 8-0 Saturday evening.

In the first inning, Virgoe notched a double and a RBI off a hit to center field, sending Tara McKenney home.

Just one inning later, Virgoe singled through the right side for two more RBI to put the Lady Demons up by three.

In the sixth, Virgoe sealed the victory with a two-run RBI homer, putting NSU up by eight.

Senior Kylie Roos pitched six complete innings, facing 25 batters, striking out 10 and allowing just three hits.

“I was really happy with the way we were able to regain our focus after a tough loss this morning,” said Lady Demon head coach Donald Pickett. “We're looking forward to tomorrow's games and what they will bring.”

The Lady Demons (2-1) continue play in the ULM Mardi Classic on Sunday when they face Wichita State at 9:00, followed by Grambling State at 1:15.
