Lady Demons travel to Alcorn State for a pair of games

NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State Lady Demon softball team travels to Alcorn State on Wednesday for a pair of games slated to begin at one o'clock.
 
NSU (6-2) recently competed at the Bulldog Battle hosted by Mississippi State where they were crowned tournament champions after finishing 4-1 on the weekend.
 
The Lady Demons recorded wins over Western Kentucky, Lipscomb, host Mississippi State and Murray State.
 
Alcorn State (1-6) split games with Kentucky State on Monday.
 
Sophomore Brittany Virgoe and juniors Cali Burke, Tara McKenney and Cheyenne DelaGarza were all named to the All-Tournament team as they compiled 22 hits, 14 runs and seven RBI.
 
NSU is led by Virgoe with 26 at bats and 13 hits for a .500 batting average. She has crossed the plate four times and acquired nine RBI on the season.
 
From the mound, senior Kylie Roos has posted a 3-0 record, including two shutouts and a powerful performance over Mississippi State. This season, she has thrown 29 complete innings, striking out 35 batters and allowing just 17 hits and seven runs for a 1.69 ERA.
 
The Lady Demons finish up a string of road games this weekend as they compete in the Southern Mississippi tournament beginning on Friday against host Southern Mississippi.
 
NSU returns home next weekend when they host the Natchitoches Historic Development Commission Lady Demon Classic beginning on March 1st. The Lady Demons kick-off tournament play against the University of Louisiana-Monroe at 12:00 P.M.
