Lady Demons set to compete at Bulldog Battle this weekend

STARKVILLE, MS – The Northwestern State Lady Demon softball team travels to Mississippi State this weekend to compete in the Bulldog Battle, hosted by Mississippi State.
 
“We have a busy weekend with some great teams to play,” said head coach Donald Pickett. “This is a chance to see what a hard week of practice has done for us.”
 
NSU opened the 2013 season last weekend at the ULM Mardi Gras Classic where sophomore Brittany Virgoe led the Lady Demons with five hits, five RBI and one home run to land herself a spot on the All-Tournament team.
 
From the circle, senior Kylie Roos garnered All-Southland Pitcher of the Week honors after throwing shutouts against Mississippi Valley State and Southeast Missouri, also at the ULM Mardi Gras Classic.
 
The Lady Demons (2-1) will face-off with Western Kentucky on Friday at two o'clock. 
 
This is the first outing of the 2013 season for the Hilltoppers. Senior Karavin Dew led Western Kentucky last season with a .313 batting average and 18 stolen bases while catching 14 runners stealing.
 
Immediately following the contest with the Hilltoppers, NSU will face Lipscomb (3-2). The Lady Bisons recently fell to Houston 10-1 at the University of Houston Tournament.
 
On Saturday, the Lady Demons meet up with the host Bulldogs. Jessica Offutt leads Mississippi State with a .417 batting average , five hits and three RBI.
 
NSU will finish out the tournament with games against Murray State on both Saturday and Sunday.  The Racers begin the 2013 season on Friday when they kick-off the Bulldog Battle with Western Kentucky.
 
The first home competition for Northwestern State will be March 1-3 in the Natchitoches Historic District Development Commission Lady Demon Classic.
