Box Score NATCHITOCHES – For the second time in three games, the Northwestern State soccer team won on a golden goal in double overtime when Taylor Mulnix scored with 8:15 left in the second overtime to lift the Lady Demons to a 2-1 victory over McNeese State in Southland Conference action on Sunday.

NSU (5-8-1, 3-3-1 Southland Conference) beat Sam Houston on Oct. 4 by the same score to give the Lady Demons their second conference win.  McNeese falls to 5-8-1 on the year with a 0-7 league record.

"McNeese is certainly a better team than their record reflects," said head coach George Van Linder. "All of their games have been close so we knew it would be a battle, and it was."

Cassandra Briscoe attacked the Cowgirl defense and then kicked it to Alex Rios deep to the left side.  Rios took a few steps in and then put up a ball to Taylor Mulnix (2) on the right side of the box, and she chipped it in for the win.

McNeese State struck first in the match on a goal from Kayla Goedicke (3) who beat the NSU defenders down the middle and scored on the left side of the goal in the fourth minute.

The Lady Demons answered in the 31st minute when Ashlee Savona scored her second goal of the season on an assist from Cassandra Briscoe.  Briscoe kicked it out to the left side and Savona chipped it form five feet out.

"Today's win is a credit to the bench and the depth of the team.  We had some players really step up who aren't normally asked to do that," said Van Linder.  "I am really proud of it.  It is something we always talk about as a coaching staff to the team and today they proved it."

NSU outshot McNeese in both shots (17-13) and shots on-goal (8-5).

Savona led the Northwestern State in shots with four (three on-goal) followed by Shelby Balmer and Nikki Saunders who each had three.

Jordan Beasley tied Savona for the match's most shots, and led McNeese with four shots (one on-goal).  Krista Steinbeiser had three.

Jessica Danku played the entire match in goal for NSU and surrendered the only goal for the Cowgirls and had four saves.  Annie Bravenec allowed both of the Lady Demon goals and had six saves.

Northwestern State will return to the field for the final home match of the year on Friday for Senior Day at 7 o'clock against Nicholls.  NSU has five matches left in the regular season.
