Box Score GRAMBLING – Joanna McFarling was seen in all areas of the field Friday afternoon as the Northwestern State Lady Demon soccer team extended their winning streak to four as they defeated Grambling 4-0 on Friday.

All four wins for NSU (5-4) were shutout victories.

“We're excited about another win and another shutout,” said head coach George Van Linder. “Grambling gave us all they had, and the game was closer than the score.”

The Lady Demons got off to a slow start in the first half as they were only able to put one ball in the back of the net. A free kick by Jackie Strug from just outside the box was saved by Lady Tiger goalkeeper Nahomie Lagardere, and redirected to Ashlee Savona. Savona's rebound shot found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season.

McFarling scored her first goal of her career at the 78-minute mark as she headed the ball in off another rebound save from Lagardere.

Strug made her mark on the board as she scored off a free kick from 25 yards out to give the Lady Demons a 3-0 lead with 14 minutes remaining. Less than one minute later, McFarling used her head again to knock down a cross just inside the box, sending the ball to Cassandra Briscoe. Briscoe shot high and sank her third goal of the season.

“We were very happy that three of our four goals came off of restarts since it's something we've been working on,” said Van Linder. “It's also very exciting that four different people scored.”

Freshman goal keeper Brooke Bourbonais earned her third shutout of the season, making four saves in net.

The Lady Demons return home on Sunday for a match against rival Louisiana-Lafayette. Kick-off is slated for 1 o'clock, followed by the celebration of Youth Soccer Day.
