Box Score LITTLE ROCK – Despite the pouring rain, freshman Cassandra Briscoe led the Northwestern State Lady Demon soccer team with two goals over Arkansas-Little Rock 4-0 Friday night in non-conference play.

NSU improves to 3-4 earning their first road victory, as UALR falls to 1-7 on the season.

“We're really excited to get that first win on the road in such adverse conditions,” said head coach George Van Linder. “Despite the constant rain and playing on artificial turf for the first time, the players did a great job.”

Briscoe scored her first collegiate goal when she found the back of the net just 28 minutes into play as she beat out UALR goalkeeper Natalie Marsh just 10 yards out. The assist went to Yanci Johnson.

Johnson put a tally on the board less than two minutes into the second half. The Lady Demons earned a corner kick, and took advantage of the poor weather conditions as Marsh misplayed the ball, giving Johnson her fifth goal of the season.

Briscoe scored again on a hard shot that went through the goalkeeper's hands at the 54-minute mark, giving the Lady Demons a 3-0 lead.

With time winding down, Jackie Strug was granted a penalty shot with less than three minutes to play, and scored her second goal of the season.

Brooke Bourbonais made four saves in net to earn the shutout.

“We still have a ways to go, but we are starting to feel like we are getting closer to where we want to be,” said Van Linder.

The Lady Demons will face Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday.
