Box Score NATCHITOCHES –
Ashlee Savona's two assists to
Yanci Johnson and
Taylor Mulnix help lead the Northwestern State Lady Demon soccer team over LSU-Shreveport 3-0 Monday night in non-conference action.
NSU improves to 2-4, while LSUS falls to 2-3.
“If we can get a win that's always something positive, and we're very happy with tonight's victory,” said head coach
George Van Linder.
The Lady Demons had multiple chances in the first half to score, but struggled to get past LSUS goalkeeper Shay Wells until the 28-minute mark.
Savona passed the ball out to junior forward Johnson as she ran up the line to put the Lady Demons on the board as she shot from outside of the box and right over Wells' head.
Less than five minutes later, Mulnix deflected a cross from Savona inside the box for her first goal of the season.
With 15 minutes remaining in the second half, Becca Furlow was granted a free kick from 35 yards out. She struck the cross bar and bounced back to
Chelsea Schaefer. Schaefer found the back of the net almost instantly off the rebound.
Brooke Bourbonais and
Jessica Danku combined in the shutout making one save each.
Wells was kept busy by the attacking Lady Demon offense collecting 13 saves on the game.
NSU travels to Arkansas Little-Rock and Arkansas Pine-Bluff for a set of games this weekend.
