TULSA, Okla.- The reigning Southland Conference offensive player of the week
Yanci Johnson and the Northwestern State Lady Demon soccer team will travel to Oral Roberts for a non-conference match.
NSU (1-1) will face OSU (1-2-1) Friday for a 7 o'clock start. This will be the first meeting on the season with the Golden Eagles; the Lady Demons will return to Tulsa in October for a Southland Conference match-up.
Oral Roberts is coming off of a win against Rogers State before losing to Southern Methodist and North Texas. Their loss to the Mean Green and tie against the University of Missouri-Kansas City came in double-overtime.
The Lady Demons defeated Texas Southern 4-1 in their home debut, giving them their first win under the direction of first year head coach
George Van Linder.
Johnson led the team with two goals in the first half, and senior
Theresa Halle earned the assist as she slotted a thru ball up the left side while Johnson ran up the line for a shot on goal.
A short pass across the field from freshman
Cassandra Briscoe gave Johnson another opportunity less than 10 minutes later. The assist earned Briscoe her first point of her career.
Junior forward
Ashlee Savona also found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Freshman
Taylor Mulnix received the assist as she unselfishly passed the ball up the middle for Savona to run up onto.
Transfer
Jackie Strug also earned the first two points of her career as she scored her first collegiate goal. The sophomore defender received a pass from Savona just inside the box and nearly collided with the goalkeeper as she was able to shoot and score.
The Lady Demons will face Tulsa on Sunday in another non-conference game.
