TULSA, Okla. – The Northwestern State Lady Demon soccer team travels to Oral Roberts on Friday for their second Southland Conference contest of the season.
“Oral Roberts is a good team, so we're looking forward to this match,” said head coach
George Van Linder.
The Lady Demons (5-5-1, 0-0-1) and the Golden Eagles (6-4-2, 0-1-0) met earlier this season for a non-conference duel. ORU came out on top with a score of 5-0 as they held NSU to just eight shots.
“It's not very often that you get the chance to get redemption within the same season,” said head coach
George Van Linder. “That game was early in the season; we've made a lot of changes as far as lineups, and we're sure ORU has as well, but we're hoping to come out on the positive side this time.”
The Golden Eagles are led by Ashley Martin with three goals and three assists, followed by Kayla Keller also with three goals and two assists.
The Lady Demons hosted Central Arkansas Friday, who at the time led the nation in goals and plays host to the nations leading goal scorer, Adriana Lucar. Lucar now sits second in scoring behind Grambling's Sierra Arndt.
Both teams found themselves scoreless after 110 minutes of play. Huge saves by freshman goalkeeper
Brooke Bourbonais kept NSU in the game after losing a player to a red card foul with 16:18 remaining in the second half.
The biggest save came with just over four minutes remaining in the second overtime in a one-on-one situation with Adriana Lucar where Bourbonais made a diving save to keep the Lady Demons alive. The NSU defense held Lucar to just four shots.
UCA took 21 shots on the night. NSU was led by freshman
Shelby Balmer as she took three shots on net.
Kick-off is slated for 7 o'clock at Case Soccer Complex in Tulsa.
