CONWAY, Ark. – The Northwestern State football team will try to repeat history and scramble the Southland Conference standings Saturday night in a Southland TV game at 13th-ranked Central Arkansas, which can clinch at least a league co-championship with a win in its Homecoming game.

The NSU-UCA contest is the Toyota Game of the Week on the Southland Conference Television Network. Coverage of the game will begin at 7 p.m. live from First Security Field at Estes Stadium in Conway with kickoff slated for 7:05 p.m.

In the Demons' last visit to UCA two years ago, Northwestern came from 10 points down to upset the 22nd-ranked Bears 24-19.

The list of Louisiana cities where the telecast will be shown includes Baton Rouge on WBTR (41); Lafayette on KLFY (10.2), Lake Charles on KVHP (29.2); Morgan City-Houma on KWBJ (22); Monroe on KWMS (17); and Shreveport on KPXJ (21.1), which reaches into most of North Louisiana including Natchitoches.

Northwestern (4-4 overall, 2-2 in the Southland) posted a 27-26 win over Nicholls State last week thanks to a pair of 42-yard, fourth-quarter field goals by John Shaughnessy, the Academic All-America candidate who was voted Southland Special Teams Player of the Week.

Quarterback Brad Henderson is completing 57.3 percent of his passes (137 of 239) for 1,388 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has thrown just two interceptions this year, which are the only two he has thrown in his last 302 attempts dating back to last season. Both interceptions were off the hands of his receivers. He threw a school record 207 consecutive passes without a pick.

Eight different Demons have caught a touchdown pass. Louis Hollier has 18 catches for 259 and a touchdown. Corey Simmons leads the team with three touchdown receptions and has caught 17 passes for 160 yards.

True freshman running back Daniel Taylor has scored five touchdowns in just 41 combined runs and receptions, including a 55-yard run last week. His scoring total is the best by a true freshman at NSU since receiver Toby Zeigler scored six TDs in 2002. Robert Walker leads the team with 252 rushing yards on 58 carries.

Northwestern ranks 23rd in the FCS in pass efficiency defense, holding opponents to a 113.18 rating. Central Arkansas (7-2 overall, 5-1 in the Southland) can lock up the Southland's automatic bid into the NCAA Division I playoffs with a win. The Bears opened with a 3-1 record that included a 24-20 victory over defending conference champion Sam Houston State, but lost 42-37 the next week at Stephen F. Austin. They have since rattled off four consecutive victories against Nicholls State, McNeese State, Lamar and previously unbeaten Southeastern Louisiana. UCA is one of three one-loss teams in Southland play. The other two – Sam Houston and Southeastern – also play Saturday.
