Box Score HAMMOND- Goals by Southeastern Louisiana's Kelsey Salcido and Kayla Vera in the first half beat the Northwestern State soccer team 2-0 to wrap up the 2012 season Friday afternoon.
NSU ends the season 6-11-1 overall, and 1-6-1 in the SLC. The Lady Lions improve to 11-6-1 overall, and 5-2-1 in the league play.
"We weren't able to pull out the win today, but I am pleased with our performance," said head coach
George Van Linder.
Vera put SLU on the board at the 27-minute mark as she scored on a shot from just outside of the box.
Salcido notched the final Lady Lion goal less than four minutes before halftime when she connected with a quick rebound from a corner kick.
The Lady Demons played a stellar second half, but it would not be enough to get them on the board. NSU outshot Southeastern 5-4 in the second, and were granted multiple scoring opportunities with four corner kicks.
“We were definitely a second-half team today,” said Van Linder. “I'm proud of the way the team turned around after a tough first half.”
Brooke Bourbonais and
Jessica Danku combined for two saves in net.
