Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Tex. – Katie Ferrara's two goals for Sam Houston State led in the 2-0 victory over the Northwestern State Lady Demon soccer team Friday night.
“We let in a disappointing goal early,” said head coach
George Van Linder. “We created some chances, but were always a step too late.”
NSU (5-7-1, 0-2-1) gave up one goal in each half as Sam Houston (5-8-1, 2-1-1) earned its second Southland Conference win this season.
Ferrara put the Bearkats on the board at the 16-minute mark off a corner kick by Shelby McDaniel.
Sam Houston kept the Lady Demons scoreless as Ferrara sank another goal at the 67-minute mark as she received a pass from Tricia Mallory.
“We took more chances in the second half, but they caught us with another one,” said Van Linder.”
Brooke Bourbonais and
Bailey Stengler combined for four saves in net.
NSU travels to Lamar on Sunday for more Southland Conference action. Kick-off is slated for 1 o'clock. The Lady Demons return home on Friday to host McNeese at the Lady Demon soccer complex. The match is slated to begin at 7 o'clock.
