Box Score HOUSTON – Northwestern State saw its three-game winning streak come to a halt Sunday afternoon after the Lady Demons dropped a 2-0 soccer contest to Houston Baptist.
The loss dropped the Lady Demons to 3-2 on the season while Houston Baptist improved to 3-3 after a weekend sweep of Southland Conference foes. The Huskies defeated Lamar by a 3-0 count on Friday night.
On Sunday, a brisk wind caused by Tropical Storm Lee played havoc with both offenses as the Lady Demons were outshot 9-7 with just one of those seven shots on-goal.
The two teams would play to a 0-0 tie the first half and the first goal wouldn't be scored until HBU's Brandi Hart netted a loft pass to the middle from Molly Missimer and Ariel Rodriguez in the 72nd minute to put the Huskies up 1-0.
Mandi Folger put HBU up 2-0 just 12 minutes later in the 84th minute to put the game away.
NSU's Yanci Johnson, who scored a goal and had an assist in NSU's 2-1 win over Prairie View on Friday night, led the Lady Demon offense with three shots on Sunday, but none of those in the neighborhood of the net. The only shot on-goal for NSU came from Ashlee Savona, who finished with two shots.
Lady Demon goalkeeper Jessica Danku played the entire 90 minutes in the net for NSU and faced five shots with two of those getting through.
NSU will return to action on Friday when it visits Jackson State, then will be back in action at the Demon Soccer Complex next Sunday afternoon against Tulsa.
