Lady Demons lose a tough one to TCU

Box Score FORT WORTH, Texas -- Texas Christian's all-time points leader Jordan Calhoun's goal in the 70th minute was enough to take a nailbiter from the Northwestern State soccer team by a final of 1-0 Sunday afternoon in a nationally televised game.

The loss dropped the Lady Demons to 5-4 on the season as they'll return home for a Friday night contest against Texas Southern in their next outing.  TCU improved to 5-4.

On the score, midlfielder Katie Garcia led Clahoun with a pass from the midfield range and Calhoun was able to get in the box and score the game-winning goal.

"We knew coming out that we were going to have to have our legs under us and be aggressive, and that just didn't happen today," said head coach Jimmy Mitchell.  "I thought we were a little fortunate in the first half (to go into the break tied 0-0), but in the second half, I feel we played much better.  We played like we were supposed to play and did a better job, but TCU is obviously a very good team."

Sophomore Jessica Danku had her work cut our for her as she had 28 shots come in her range and saved seven on net.  That tied her for her own season high when she recorded seven against Tulsa last Sunday.

"She read the game very, very well," said Mitchell. "She is very long and can stretch out there and make some good saves.  Her ability to distrubute when teams really pressure us, and her ability to kick the ball past midfield really helps relieve some of that pressure."

Haley Chesier and Yanci Johnson each had a shot on goal in the game in a category TCU dominated by an 8-2 margin.  TCU took 28 total shots to NSU's seven.
