NATCHITOCHES – A fierce offensive attack by Tulsa kept Northwestern State on its heels for most of the day as the Golden Hurricane blanked the Lady Demons by a 2-0 count Sunday afternoon at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex.

The loss dropped the Lady Demons to 4-3 on the season while Tulsa improved to 4-2-1.

The game was delayed for 38 minutes with just 10 minutes to play in the contest after NSU sophomore defender Alexandria Jackson suffered what appeared to be a serious neck injury. She would be air lifted in stable condition out of the NSU track complex as the soccer game concluded while Lady Demon players and fans cheered her on.

“Obviously our concern is with AJ,” said head coach Jimmy Mitchell of Jackson. “It was an unfortunate and freak accident with her and a Tulsa player going for a ball. And she came down and landed wrong.”

When play resumed, NSU was unable to get anything going offensively.

“We had some chances but couldn't capitalize on them,” said Mitchell. “Yanci (Johnson) gave us some opportunities but we just didn't do a good job with being aggressive on offense.”

Tulsa outshot the Lady Demons by a 19-3 mark with a 9-2 advantage in shots on-goal.

The Golden Hurricane snapped a scoreless first half with 35 seconds remaining after Shelby Martin made good off a rebound for her first goal of the season to make it 1-0.

Tulsa went up 2-0 in the 54th minute after Stephanie Aitken netted her third goal of the year when she drove the net and easily sank the score.

The Lady Demons will be back in action on Friday when they host Southern Mississippi at 7 p.m. at the Lady Demon Soccer Complex.
