Lady Demon soccer team to take on first place Stephen F. Austin Sunday at 1 o'clock

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Northwestern State Lady Demon soccer team concludes its two game road swing with a tough, crucial Southland Conference match against first place Stephen F. Austin on Sunday at 1.

The Lady Demons (7-6, 1-2 SLC) will to try and snap a 10-match winless streak against the Ladyjacks (8-2-1, 3-0 SLC) and continue to play for a spot in the six-team Southland Conference tournament which will be hosted by NSU the first weekend in November.

NSU fell to Sam Houston State 1-0 on Friday and dropped from fourth place to seventh in league standings.

SFA vaulted into the first place slot after a 6-0 win over Central Arkansas and Southeastern Louisiana getting upset by Lamar 1-0.

“This (SFA team) on paper is the best team in our league,” said head coach Jimmy Mitchell. “They are going to be a very tough task but we are going to go compete and try to take a win.”

Inside of that 10-match winless streak, the Lady Demons are 0-8-2 and being outscored by an 18-4 margin.

Northwestern State returns home next weekend to start a three-game home stand beginning with Texas State on Friday night at 7 o'clock.
